The Monkey's Spoon - Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and where you're from?
Gretel Grimm - I was born and raised in Joliet and I’ve always lived in the Chicago area. I’m 38, I’m an editor for a healthcare non-profit, and I have a hilarious and brilliant daughter who’s almost three.

The Monkey's Spoon - What's the background on your Derby name?
Gretel Grimm - My derby name is Gretel Grimm. I’ve loved Grimm’s Fairy Tales (especially the really brutal, gory ones) since I was a kid. I like Gretel from “Hansel and Gretel” because she seems quiet and unassuming, but in the end, she’s the one who shoves the witch into the oven and saves the day
The Monkey's Spoon - How long have you been doing roller derby?Gretel Grimm - I started in July 2012.
The Monkey's Spoon - Have you skated for any other team?
Gretel Grimm - Nope, and I don’t plan to. 88s or nothing!
The Monkey's Spoon - Is there anyone who intimidates you?
Gretel Grimm - Not really. J
The Monkey's Spoon - Have you had any other sporting experiences?
Gretel Grimm - I joined the badminton team in high school, but I quit after one practice because someone made a comment about me wearing my striped tights under my shorts. I was basically dressing for derby about 20 years too early.
The Monkey's Spoon - Besides Derby, what else do you do for fun?
Gretel Grimm - Wait, am I supposed to be doing other things for fun?
The Monkey's Spoon - One thing your team mates don't know about you?
Gretel Grimm - They know everything. Really. Everything.
The Monkey's Spoon - Any special Talents?
Gretel Grimm - I can write backwards in cursive.
The Monkey's Spoon - Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and where you're from?Sgt. Spankx - I was born and raised in Aurora, IL, I now live in Montgomery. I am mom to two amazing kids and currently stay home.
The Monkey's Spoon - What's the background on your Derby name?
Sgt. Spankx - My derby name is Sgt, Spankx. Well…I am a bigger girl so the Spankx part is because Spankx products help keep everything where it should be, but there is also the slightly naughty connotation too. The military angle is a nod to my husband, a marine and former Desert Storm vet.
The Monkey's Spoon - How long have you been doing roller derby?
Sgt. Spankx - I started with the latest group of prospects in March of this year.
The Monkey's Spoon - Have you skated for any other team?
Sgt. Spankx - Nope, for me it is Aurora 88s or no one
The Monkey's Spoon - Is there anyone who intimidates you?
Sgt. Spankx - We have some really incredible skaters in our league, I wouldn’t say thy intimidate me, but when I am skating against a few of them I know I really have to bring my A game, or I’ll be on the floor.
The Monkey's Spoon - Have you had any other sporting experiences?
Sgt. Spankx - I played soccer in high school and softball in college (not for a college, but I was playing on a team while attending a college).
The Monkey's Spoon - Besides Derby, what else do you do for fun?
Sgt. Spankx - I love taking my kids to open skates, I paint and I write (not as much as I wish I could, but almost enough to call myself an artist).
The Monkey's Spoon - One thing your team mates don't know about you?
Sgt. Spankx - I’ve had a short story and a poem published
